The Digital Road for the Downstream Oil and Gas Industry and its Transformation Needs

Hamburg, Germany (April 21, 2021)

The only cloud on the horizon for the oil and gas downstream industry when entering 2020, was the latent impact of the energy transition. The global COVID-19 pandemic caught the industry off-guard. Demand for transportation fuels fell by significant amounts and travel restrictions as well as WFH governmental recommendations left vehicles abandoned in their parking spots.

As countries tentatively emerge from lockdowns, the oil and gas industry is facing a number of challenges

  • A longer-term demand decline caused by an economic downturn
  • The accelerating shift to greener energy sources
  • Pressure on profits and margins improvement

The coming year’s transformation journey will have some clear winners and consolidation targets.  But every company will have to push as far down to the transformation path as possible.

We still believe that the industry has the capability of delivering another decade of long term growth. But this requires a stronger vision than ever, and investment in new technologies that allow remote operations, strong discipline on operating expenses, and restriction of capital expenditures.

As Roicéad we believe that solutions that will digitise the operations

  • Boost productivity
  • Reduce costs
  • Optimise the supply chain

will be factors that will create the quickest and sturdiest foundation for success.

We launched our first MVP (Minimum Viable Product) solution in the market using the SAP Cloud Platform as a technological layer on an iPaaS model that is increases organisational agility to deliver fast easy to adopt and cost affordable solutions. Our focus is to provide tools that companies they will use as basis of their growth strategy.

Aim to improve the forecasting and planning process amid ongoing price volatility, as well as reduce the risk of oversupply during peaks, in order to weather future market cycles.

This represents only the first phase of the necessary solutions for the industry. Our main goal is for this initial solution to act as the foundation for an industry solution cloud that will integrate technologies, advanced analytics, machine learning application in the near future.

Dimitris Pagonis says. “Over the past few years we have developed new service concepts and models that have been very well received on the market. The reaction and the feedback that we accumulated were the driving force for doing a lot of leg work and research in order to measure the market demand. It’s been worth it, as our ideas and conceptions are proving to be invaluable to our clients’ decision making”.

Although Roicéad is a new company, its founding partners have a well-established track record in the industry. Pagonis explains: “It is evident that IT complex solutions and platforms are still one of the largest expenditures for the oil and gas companies. As most of them are running on the SAP ® platform, soon they will be challenged to follow SAP® Strategy on an upgrade path. The pressures of digitalising their business and adapting to the new IT trends are enormous. The companies that will be the race winners are those who will have the agility to adopt innovation faster than the rest.”
